On the Subject of Freeing Oneself

What is life without adventure?
What is life without passion?
Must we always be so silent,
Following our parents fashion?
Image

Must we not think for ourselves?
And give up all inspiration
Must we accept things as they are?
And be conformed through obligation?

Can we hear and just accept?
Not knowing fully what was spoken
And spend years tied in regret
Before our thoughts are finally broken

Can we not draw from men before us,
The ones who lived, learned, and taught?
We were created for a purpose
Great minds, but maybe we forgot

Wilde said, “Be yourself;
Everyone else is taken,”
But people often hold you back
Disrupt the story you were making,

This dread poured out on paper
With frustration in your hand
Waiting for a chance to begin livin’
Not being pulled at every (wild) end,

A time enveloped with inspiration
Breathe and let your mind just soar,
Write and dream of freedom coming
Adventure will arrive once more!

Childhood Forest

ImageWe walked in the wild
Galoshes on our feet
More than one child
Marching by the beat
Smiling faces
Wondering eyes
Galloping from places
Caught up in surprise
A trip and fall
A snake or two
A distant call
Like in a zoo
A howl, a hiss
Is not absurd
The arrow missed
Pull out the sword
A drink, a splash
A sting, a bite
No need for cash
Can fly a kite
A jump, a shout
It’s all it is
Imagination played out
In the wilderness.

Order of Operations

I want to see life
In it’s simplest occasion
I long to discover
Purpose without persuasion
I want to return
To the mind of the child
I long to let go
Run free and wild
I want to forget
All these things I have known
I long to erase memories
As to the past I return
I want to learn
Without judgement, not in vain
I long to inhale fully
To seek adventure, forget pain
I want to change
From the inside out
I long to find
The things I can live without
I want to read
With imagination in mind
I long to experience
Love beyond kind
I want to be patient
I am willing to wait
I long to have courage
To grant life a new fate.
