Free Spirited

We climbed on playgrounds Childhood
Different worlds
Childhood stories
Clashing swords
We ran for meters
Discovering new places
Of abandoned crevices
The quiet little places
We swam
Into the quiet sea
Wrapped by its touch
We felt so free
Drifted our thoughts
Into most glorious stories
The good old tales
Of this land’s glories
Sometimes a tear or two
Was shed
Sometimes we dreamt
Awake in bed
Of all that’s been
Of what’s to come
Holding onto moments
While trying to be someone
A day of inspiration
And maybe pain too
So that we may learn
What we as children knew.

Departed Places

They say, “It’s not about where you’re going but it’s who you’re with.”
But this was just a song in times we’ve spent in grief
And miles away I wondered, wondered where you’ll be
Into a stream of thought bounded by memory
I have known your name; I haven’t seen your face
The room between my fingers was your empty space
I’m chasing just a memory of ten years ago
I guess some things have changed but I may never know
I hear it took some courage the way our timing flew
They said that in the end, one may not feel so blue
Where did directions change? The compass was now lost
Can’t find my way back home, it’s you I miss the most!
Our lives were full of chances that were never taken
Many mistakes were made but some were not forsaken
I wanted you to be there, I wanted you to see
The things that never came to pass – our future memory
They say, “What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger”
I only wish you stuck around for just a moment longer.

One calls the Heart

It’s not a matter of where one comes fromtumblr_mgdn8k4LSc1qlr3ufo1_1280

But rather where the heart belongs
Years of residing in such a place
Longing for something besides empty space
The heart was planted where it has begun
Forever shall stand, being guarded by none
Searching for places it may never go
A hunger to find a home to grow
One will return to the place he comes from
For the love in the heart is the one only home.
